British Airways to Launch New Club World Seats in 2019

First | November 26, 2018

British Airways has announced that it will introduce new Club World seats in July 2019.

The next generation business class seats are due to debut on the carrier’s new Airbus A350 aircraft as BA takes delivery of the first of the aircraft type in July 2019. Four of the A350-1000s are scheduled to carry the long-awaited refreshed seats towards the latter half of 2019, joined by two B777 aircraft and other selected jets in the airline’s fleet.

The new seats are promised to be larger with direct aisle access at every seat. There will be more personal storage as well as improved privacy features.

Inflight entertainment will be gate-to-gate for the first time, which means the TV screen will be fixed to the seats as opposed to the current adjustable model. The airline, however, is keeping tight-lipped on the actual aesthetics of the seat and cabin.

The rollout of BA’s new Club World Seats on new aircraft is expected to be completed by 2023. By the end of 2019, BA will take delivery of a total of 16 Airbus A350-1000, and 12 Boeing 787-10 between 2020 and 2023 which will boast the new Club World seats with six of these scheduled to arrive in 2020.

The rollout of the new Club World seats on existing airlines is also expected to be completed by 2023 with the retrofit scheduled to be completed on two Boeing 777 jets by the end of 2019.

We can anticipate the announcement of the first Airbus A350-1000 routes for the end of the current year. Accra, Cape Town, Las Vegas, Miami, Nairobi, Phoenix, and Vancouver are likely long-haul routes as the next-gen aircraft is set to replace the 52 Club World seats on the Boeing 747.
