Virgin Australia to Commence Sydney to Hong Kong Flights

Mary Grace | March 5, 2018

Virgin Australia is strengthening its presence in Greater China with the launch of daily flights from Sydney to Hong Kong.

The service, which is still awaiting authorisation, will be operated by the airline’s Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Onboard, the Airbus A330-200 is decked out with Virgin Australia’s acclaimed business class product, ‘The Business’.

The move follows the recently launched service between Melbourne and Hong Kong, which commenced seven months ago. The newly launched flights also mean passengers can now opt for an all-Virgin service to the UK by connecting onto a Virgin Atlantic flight between Hong Kong and London.

The Sydney to Hong Kong flights are due to begin in the middle of 2018 once approved, with fares available for purchase soon.

Regarding the announcement, CEO of Virgin Australia Group, John Borghetti affirmed, “Expanding our presence into Greater China is a key pillar of our international strategy, and today we are building on the positive momentum created since the launch of our Melbourne-Hong Kong flights.

“The new Sydney-Hong Kong service will link two global destinations and will allow Virgin Australia to further access the fastest growing and most valuable Australian inbound market, China2, with our alliance partner Hong Kong Airlines. The service will also connect with Virgin Atlantic Airway’s flights to London.

“Virgin Australia has been “shaking up” the Australia-Hong Kong market by introducing lower fares and its award-winning inflight product and service since it began its first Melbourne-Hong Kong flight last year.”

The Sydney to Hong Kong daily schedule will see outbound flight VA89 depart Sydney at 1000 and arrive in Hong Kong at 1740. Meanwhile, the inbound flight VA88 will take off from Hong Kong at 1950 and land back in Sydney at 0710  the following day.
