With its recent announcement of its history-making non-stop flights from Perth to London on the 787-9 Dreamliner, Qantas could soon be looking to open an international lounge in Perth to go with the new route.
This means that premium passengers travelling from Perth to London as well as to Singapore and Auckland, could soon be enjoying an exclusive lounge made only for those travelling on the Qantas Dreamliner.
As part of what is known as the Qantas Terminal Precinct, the national carrier will operate all of its international flights from Terminal 3 in Perth’s domestic terminal by the early 2018. This terminal is currently being used for regional, Qantaslink and Jetstar flights while T4 handles the interstate and some regional Western Australia services.
Perth’s T3 will receive a make-over to accommodate for the international flights, immigration and quarantine until Qantas opens a new international terminal at T1 which is expected to open in 2025.
Until such developments, Qantas passengers transiting in Perth to catch onward connections on the Dreamliner won’t have to worry about transferring between the domestic and international terminals. However, as it stands, they will have to make do with the Domestic Business Lounge and the Qantas Club until the forthcoming international lounge is built in the international zone of T3.
The Dreamliner Perth to London route will open possibilities to Perth being Australia’s fastest gateway to Europe, with prospects of future routes to Paris, Rome and Frankfurt. Qantas will move its operations to Terminal 1 which will be expanded by 2025.
