The Junrui Hotel Shanghai has reopened as the Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao Airport in partnership with Huazhu Hotels Group.

The launch is the latest measure taken by the collaboration between AccorHotels and Huazhu, which has targeted Shanghai as its main market for the expansion of its midscale and upscale sectors. Operated by Huazhu in agreement with AccorHotels, the company has now acquired contracts for 10 Mercure hotels in Shanghai.

The hotel is located opposite Terminal 1 at Hongqiao International Airport adjacent to a metro station and can be accessed via the T1 passageway. The 224 rooms feature flat screen TVs and free WiFi whilst meeting rooms, a restaurant, a bar and a gym make up some of the main amenities available.

‘Privilege Rooms’ located on the higher floors feature added conveniences such as a coffee machine.

Having established a strong presence in China’s first and second-tier cities, Huazhu is planning further expansion by staging a second stage of growth in the country’s third-tier cities.

Hongqiao International Airport is one of three international air transit centres in China and is located approximately 13 kilometres (about eight miles) from downtown Shanghai. The airport recorded nearly 40 million passengers for 2015, deeming it mainland China’s sixth busiest airport.
